PRIDENTON is more than an annual PRIDE event in Denton. It is the dream to have an LGBTQ+ community center for Denton. Along with raising funds via the annual Pride event, we will also be trying to write grants to raise funds for this dream. We hope to provide a space at the annual Pride event in June in Denton for all LGBTQ+ folks and Allies to celebrate the diversity within our communities. One way PRIDENTON lives this value is to center or highlight a population annually at our Pride events. In the inaugural PRIDENTON events, in 2017, PRIDENTON centered transgender communities, led by the Denton chapter of Trans-cendence. PRIDENTON 2018 centered QTPOC (Queer Trans People of Color). PRIDENTON 2019 celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising by honoring artists, activists, and our elders.
PRIDENTON started via Cruz's vision for Denton. Cruz is a Denton transplant who came from Miami in 1997 and has been working on improving the lives of LGBTQ+ citizens. Her vision for Denton is to have a community center where LGBTQ+ individuals of all ages can gather for affirmation and community.
